I have the high spec (I think it's the equivalent of the BRZ Ltd in the US) which comes with the 17" rims - and don't really want to spend cash on wheels at this stage + the stock wheels really aren't bad.

compound is more important then width of a tire for traction and a wider tire on a narrow rim with feel sloppy due to the side wall bulging out and the car will be less responsive. However I ran 225s on OEM and it wasn't bad. Also don't forget wider is heavier
