First, are you sure the wires won't fit in the rubber pass-through tube? In my installation, it was tricky to get through, but I managed to shove them through by feeding a wire clothes hanger through that had a shoelace taped to the end, and in turn taping the wire to the shoelace. Did that twice for two wires, and then again to route it through some body panels.

I'd give that a shot before hacking together a solution that might make it much more difficult to work with in the future.
