Could you leave the OEM seat bottom cushions in place, and still use the rest of the kit? The OEM bottom cushions don't weigh much (maybe about the same as the replacement pieces?), and would allow you to put something behind the seats that weighs more than the plastic replacement parts could support. Plus, you could kneel on the OEM cushions when getting back there to clean the rear window. It sounds like the plastic replacement pieces won't support the weight of a person kneeling on them. It also sounds like most of the weight savings comes from the removal of the seat back, and the rest of the hardware - seat belts, brackets, etc..
