Its 40% but you keep medical and could actually live off what I make now which is e3 pay so roughly 1600us a month after tax even if they didn't give me housing. I would actually look at it this way. I can retire from the military at 40 or 41 and keep 40% of my pay and medical then go open a garage or whatever I wanna do as my job then. I could go do something I really wanna do even if it doesn't make a lot as I have "retirement" pay to supplement. So I guess its not retiring but if you enjoy you work its not work is it
