I loved the place. Took only a very short period of time to get onto driving on the left hand side of the road. What I will say about the roads is that 3/4 of the time your ether in a left hand or right turn which would be perfect for a rented GT86, and you will not believe what the posted speed limits are for the size of the road your on (faster than you'd expect, but which out for the drop-offs). Drove from Auckland to Christchurch via Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Wellington, Nelson, along the west side of the south island to Haast (climbed the part of the mountain used in the Lord of the Rings movie as Mount doom), Queenstown and Dunedin. Had three weeks to do it and would go back in a heart beat. PS Try the white bait sandwich (mmmmmm good)
