Its hard to steal someone's identity without DOB and SSN information as well anyway. And no online retailer should be asking for those things.

Finally, your card info can be easily stolen in real life: evil waiters, evil cab drivers, infected card terminals.
You should never ever have a Ssn number on your credit file or any credit card unless it was absolutely necessary. That is just opening yourself up to a higher risk as pulling a credit bureau isn't that hard if they have some info and are good at what they do(fraud). They get access to your credit bureau and your SSN is on there guess who can now get his identity stolen.


Take it from a former fraud analyst for a credit card company and credit analyst for government/military security clearances, do not give your SSN to anyone even your bank/cc if it is not an absolute necessity as you just increase the possibility of someone being able to access that information.
