Some dealers treat it as warranty and some don't so there isn't even a formal recognition form Toyota at this point. If you suspect it is starting to go then get it fixed ASAP because if you leave it and have a catastrophic failure it can take out a pile of other more costly parts with it.

my guess is the factory that build them has shitty QA and so a lot of them are put on the cars with factory defects or weaknesses that only become apparent a few months down the road.
