I have had a few extended warranties. One thing to mention is that if you sell the vehicle but do not transfer the warranty (ie-trade it in to a dealer), you get a refund of the unused balance. But these are not really an extension of the factory warranty as much as a replacement.
If you have a 5 year warranty and trade in the car after 2 years, you don't get a full refund because you are still in the original factory warranty (3 years on Subarus). You get a refund for the unused 3 years of the "extended " warranty. And if you have rolled the warranty in to your loan, you are paying interest on it that you won't get back. Hope that helps.
