Toyota DOES know how to make a good performance car, they just haven't done it in a while.

Very good points. Middle age people tend to have children which will learn to drive at some point so the TC button only being partially "off" has a practical purpose. Although there should be a cheat code in the manual, so only the more motivated will even bother trying to disable the controls completely.
Tires are a bigger factor than which wheels power the car IMHO. Tall skinnies for Winter, and short fatties for spring, summer, and fall.
I am liking the RX-8 system, adding ABS to the list would be nice although some people would probably pick and choose which only complicates things.
