THe woven heat tape is basically an exhaust wrap right ? I would think it would be most appropriate to wrap the exhaust and foil the airbox
My fabrication/racecar wizard guy is telling me I really need to vent the hood near the headers.
I am also thinking about routing a HVAC tube to basically take air from the front and dump it on the top of the headers to prevent the air from rising as much (not sure if that will work
but basically im not super stoked about my engine temps and i dont want to blow the motor. ... I will be getting an oil cooler on the car next month

Get one of those snazzy air diverter things.
The woven tape is essentially header wrap, yeah. The stuff I used on my GTI has a foil covering to reflect radiant heat as well.
Venting the hood at the rear will be tough because it's a high pressure zone. Might be more effective to put a NACA duct directing air down over the header.
What kind of temps are you seeing? With a proper oil cooler I've not heard of any major issues on the R53s besides IATs due to heatsoak.
