Ultramaroon think I've told this story many times here before, but after I got my first stick car, my dad picked it up for me while I was at work and left the keys and a note in the kitchen. The note basically said "you have a week to practice on your own, then you'll get a week with me teaching". I went out that first day, stalled, burnt the clutch, spun the tires a lot from popping the clutch and fucked up just about every way in the book. After 2 or 3 days, I got a lot smoother.
Then I went out with my dad, he drove me around for about 30 minutes showing me some of the finer points, then got me to drive. The first thing he did was instructed me to get to the biggest, steepest hill he knew about in town. Told me to pull over, park the car and shut it off. Gave me some pointers and told me to get to the top of the hill. That was a fun experience that took probably 15 times longer than it should have. (Also taught me the ebrake thing

)
He never taught me how to rev match, instead he just told me to down shift a gear whenever I could, without the car jerking around too much. Worked for me for 2 and a half years.
Had I bought an MT frs, I'd probably have tried learning to heel-toe, but it's definitely not a necessary skill for the 90% of situations you'll be in when you're driving, let alone just learning to drive stick.
Edit: though, with that said, I often got lazy and did the neutral roll.
