They also did it not only for thermal expansion but also make it an easier install the for the consumer. Having opposing ends, it allows you to close up/lengthen the flange to get it accurately over the studs.
I will drive it for the holidays after they dyno and need about 500 to 800 miles with multiple key cycles so we'll see if my car emits a CEL. I should get it back this Friday.
