I've heard people who start learning manual for the first time often use the handbrake to hold as they aren't too familiar with where the clutch grabs or able to do it quickly and efficiently enough. But as they improve and get better, they then just do it like normal and transition quickly from the brake to clutch, getting to the bite point as quick as possible to prevent any downhill movement.

For me, I drive an automatic with a foot operated emergency brake, so I get to pretend I drive a manual and let out the emergency brake slowly like a clutch and if I ever mess up, the car doesn't roll back anyways so its win-win #automaticmasterrace
