They are called "idiot lights" for a reason and should never be trusted one way or the other.
Nothing beats a good gauge for such things.
I had such a good picture response for what a good Gauge is but am at work and searching for Gauge pics would probably have brought quite a few NSFW result that could get me relieved from my position if you know what I mean.
