I use the handbrake all the time. On a hill, no hill, downhill, and put the car into gear and release as I start moving to avoid any noob rolling forwards or backwards. If you use your clutch on a hill while reving the engine or just using your brake you'll shorten the life of your clutch and may accidentally roll back onto the car behind you. Thats just me though. Ive been driving manuals all my life.
