It's details but if you asked Toyota if their filter can be used on a Subaru, the official (and legal) response would be that it is not designed for Subaru BRZs.
In reality we all know what works and what doesn't. But for the average person who relies on a dealer for service, it's best that they stick with a part that won't give the dealer grounds (reasonable or otherwise) to deny legit service work.

This would be fun if they open the hood and see all the Subaru parts. This reasoning is flawed when you have a car that is made up of 90% Subaru parts.
