I wouldn't use spray, although it might work. If something worked well, I would just follow that instead of trying something else that might not work. And even if you use the proper grease, you can call it a day only if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, then you need to drop the tranny to get rid of the noise.

With the same hand carrying the grease, pull the clutch fork forward, collapsing the slave actuator a little bit.
Then, while holding the rod with the other hand, squish that little dab of grease into the mating receptacle and let the rod seat itself back in.
If that doesn't do the trick, it's time to drop the tranny.
