The option to purchase a DEALER backed bumper-to-bumper warranty extension from 3/36 to 7/70 on my BRZ with $100 deductible seemed like a no brainer to me, so I bought it. In addition, while you can wait and buy post delivery, the cost of the same extended coverage doubles to nearly $2,000 if purchased later, at least according to Colonial Subaru of Danbury Connecticut.
I fixed your post. The extended warranty isn't Subaru backed, it is backed by whatever dealer you are buying from and who they found to give them the most money for selling a policy. Extended warranties are nice for some people, but they are generally just another way for a dealer to make money off you and can always be purchased after the fact or even 3 years later if you decide to keep your car.
