The rod bearing is the one on the crank at the base of the rod, while the main bearing is the one in the block which holds the crank in place.
I would guess it is a rod bearing, as that is the one that would make noise as the rod hit back and forth on it.

It was a rod bearing, at least that is what I was told on the phone. I never got to talk to the tech working on it, just the SA but he later said crank shaft bearing. There might be some confusion but I will pick the techs brain when I go pick up the car.
