They overheat and start degrading very, very quickly. In my experience, if I drive more than 1 lap, I will be on tires with less grip that second lap.

Overheating the tire badly damages the compound.

Even with 255/40/17, which is a size I rarely use on the BRZ, I am able to get the tire to start overheating in just one hot lap. The tires just have THAT much friction/grip.
