I did test the R888 against the RE71-R (I bought the RE71-R, because I needed a street legal tire which was less prone to hydroplaning and probably also because I read all the raving reviews). The R888 was over 1 year old and had about 40 autocross runs on it. The R888 was still superior compared to the RE71-R (new) in dry conditions.
It was interesting to note that the RE71-R was stickier to touch and picked up more dirt. Nevertheless the R888 was faster.
Of course, the R888 is still significantly slower than a racing slick (see my previous post).
Over here the R888 is meanwhile being replaced by the R888-R (but I have no experience with the R888-R nor do I know anyone who has.)
