I searched and only found one topic so far regarding heat reduction and headers. A lot said don't wrap cause of a chance of fire if oil leaks on the header. It sounded like there were ways to combat this possibility.
I don't want to ceramic coat this header. WHY? Cost? For the price of one or two rolls of wrap you can get it coated. Is probably the best investment you can make on this car. Plus even though you might not recover the cost of having them coated, you would make it more attractive to the buyer. I still plan to get a turbo in time, but I wanted to try a header first, and I'll sell it later.
Question(s)
1. Should I wrap my header for a basic header install and full exhaust setup. No turbo at this time, nothing special done besides the exhaust and tune (OFT). - Short answer yes, anything to keep the temps down regardless if it is turbo or not. I would go with ceramic coating though. Easier and I reckon cheaper.
2. If I do wrap it, how much wrap do I need to purchase. I've seen them anywhere from 15' to 100'. I was looking at 2" wrap so far. Depends how good are you at wrapping. I would recommend to get some metal clamps for the ends, and spray the wrap with silicone (DEI makes it) so you seal the wrap from oil, water, etc.
3. Any recommendations for wrap brand/type? - Heaps on line, but make sure you get the good stuff as some will just fry and start braking. Since you are cheap though, you might end up with an inferior product and be unhappy and sorry that you didn't do it right first time. (wrap or ceramic coat) You get what you pay!
Thanks in advance. I did search a couple of times via phone (tapatalk), tablet (tapatalk), google (PC), and the forum advanced search (PC). I only found one thread that was useful.
