I usually back in, too, but not because it looks cool. I do it because it's easier and more precise, and lets you get into tight spaces (in the unfortunate event that you have NO choice other than to park close to potential inconsiderate/unaware door-ding-producers) with more control. When you turn your front wheels, you make relatively large changes in the direction your front end goes, but the car sort of pivots on the back wheels since they don't change angles and the back end doesn't move a great deal. Soo.. when backing in, you have very precise control of where the back end is headed because of how relatively little it moves in an arc compared to the front of the car. It's sort of like the "lever" principle; you're now using the long end of the lever to control the short end, instead of the other way. Pulling in nose-first is actually more difficult and less precise, once you get used to both methods.
