It's the opposite, you don't want increased air density for better MPG as this increases drag on the car. The engine is also more thermodynamically efficient with higher intake temperatures (at the expensive of power, which is this case isn't whats needed).
My Golf TDI has visibily better fuel economy during the warmer months of the year.
