In OP's case, if the A/C is running full blast almost all the time that will take a toll on the mileage too.

Sport mode should get BETTER mileage so long as you're not trying to coast (on normal it won't engine break, allowing engine RPM to drop but rolling speed to not as the converter isn't locked up). The converter is going to be locked up at cruise anyway, but a lower speeds I'm not so sure.

Yup California Arizona and Nevada all run 91.

Excellent point, once my engine is warm I will drop to fifth gear at 35 mph, 6th at 45 mph if traffic is convenient, second nature to someone used to larger displacement vehicles but counter-intuitive to those who have spent their time around higher revving Japanese and Euro cars especially given that the FA20 does not like pulling from below 2k rpm.

It's easy to forget that it's happy to cruise down around 1.5k-2k rpm, but don't expect to put your foot down and have anything except ugly noises happen.

I meant more that a lot of people are somehow scared of the higher gears and feel that anything under 2K RPM is hurting the engine. On flat level ground, the engine will happily cruise at just over 1.5K PRM. Hell, I remember a thread about someone that only used 6th on the highway if there wasn't traffic, and would stay in 5th instead

I'm curious what the ECU is doing but he'd need to log to find that out.
