As Panda mentioned, the road is tricky/dangerous as it is during the day time. Not only the animals, but the varying surfaces and blind corners combined with reduced sight-lines at night, just begs for trouble. Not a lot of people talk about it, but there have been quite a few fatalities on those roads. If you pay close attention, you may find one or two relatively new "memorials" people have placed on the side of the road from more recent accidents.

Not sure if its because I'm older or a father now, but no thrill is worth that much risk. I'll stick with early morning runs at my own leisurely pace.
