ciotime, I'd suggest you try some silver polish or brass polish. Use a buffer wheel unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands.
Yep, silver polish ..... it's under the sink ...... way to the back.
The brass polish is in the shoe box ...... to polish the brass belt buckle, after you spit shined your boots.
