I'm not trying to bash you by any means...but it depends on what you mean by "hold your own." Competitive locally? Possibly, if you're a solid driver. Competitively at national events? Doubtful, unless you spend a ton of money on it AND you're an amazing driver.
When I was considering the BRZ/FRS platform, I thought I would HAVE to have more power. Now that I own one and have driven in a few autox's, I want no such thing. This car is a blast to drive at 10/10th in autox...and drive aggressively on the street without drawing attention (when you get beat off the line by a minivan, cops tend to easily see past you).
Now, all of that said, I'm sure after I'm done at PG2, I'll want more power. Hell, I thought my stage 2+E85 STI needed more power at BIR though. Have to pick and choose your battles! But I greatly enjoy being able to drive my FRS and not worry about issues with mods, the tune, blowing up, etc. At the end of the day, each will make it their own.
