I am with Tcoat on this one. The thing you have to remember with extended warranties is that they are designed to make money, and normally large amounts of it. This means they have run the statistics on it and they know that on average each person who gets the extended warranty will require repairs that cost significantly less than the cost of the warranty, if any at all. They've run the numbers and they know they will come out ahead, not the consumer.
There still is the chance that you will be an outlier and have something go horribly wrong, but that chance is typically pretty small statistically. This is why I always self insure after the factory warranty period.
