In light of that observation, I'd suggest you perform a simple clutch test.

Set the emergency brake (real good).

Put your car in second gear.

Rev the engine to about 3,000 rpms.

Slowly let out the clutch and see if it makes that noise ..... before the engine stalls.

If it makes that noise, it's a good chance it's clutch related.

If the engine doesn't stall ........ plan on buying a new clutch......
