I got my first 1 at 18 years old. I am currently 20 and have been hospitalized twice for kidney stones. I know, I get "you've had kidney stones? You're so young!" It's by far the worst pain I've been through. It's very similar to having your appendix bursting. (I've had that too..)

Let me help dispell some of the myths about kidney stones. Disclaimer: I am not a Doctor, nor have I had any medical practice. The following information is from what I have gathered through experiences and advise from Doctors. There are substances these stones can be made up of, Calcium (most common) or Sodium. Very salty or foods containing a lot of calcium can form these stones over time. But you do not want to cut calcium completely out of your diet due to the fact that your body will hold on to this calcium and can make your stones worse. Stuff like Tums with is a calcium based acid that you use to treat an upset stomach is an example of what can cause kidney stones. Drinking a lot of bottled or filtered water is a way of preventing kidney stones.
