It's around the crankshaft in front of the flywheel but it's not relevant. I only mentioned it to say it can all be fixed.
The flywheel can be resurfaced depending on the depth of the heat affected zone. Make sure you pick the shop carefully and ask them to pull as little as they can with each pass. Ask them to rebalance.
