Most engines will have a slight increase in mpg after break in. They are tight when new. Also, altitude can have a pronounced affect, with the ecu leaning out afm @ higher altitudes due to less 02 in the air. My Toyota 4x4 gets 16-17 mpg mixed @ sea level, but I have seen as high as 23mpg in the same truck running a whole tank @ 8000-10,000ft+ mountain elevations.
