I still have no FT86.
I have a short ratio on my Lotus (10% shorter than the 4,56 ft86, but engine revs 10% higher). It' s fantastic.
MPG will only change on highway. Change nothing on the road or city.
With cars around 200-300 hp, you will need something around 125km/h in 3rd and 200 in 5th. In a perfect world 90 in 2nd. (For the track obviously).
If you get shorter than 4,56 , 2nd will get useless.
If you track the car, 4,56 is the only choice.
Unless you have 400hp and drive at Daytona or Spa.
200 hp cars will have trouble going over 180km/h at most (non F1) tracks.
So you need to have the most gear choices from 80 to 180.
You may have to use 6th instead of 5th at some F1 tracks, but the time you'll loose in the main strech won't be much compared to the gain in the rest of the lap.
Most of the time 225km/h is a BTCC top speed and 250 is a GT2 top speed at F1 track. 4,56 should be fine for a FT86
