On 3rd gear I have a range of speed 102 - 144 km/h. If you compare this with a 4.5 fd ratio, from 102 -120 km/h you can use same gear and you are faster. So you are faster for a range of 18 km (102 to 120). Then you have to change to 4th gear, while I'm still accelerating on 3rd gear up to 144 km/h. This is a range of 24 km (120 to 144). So in a very simplistic manner, you are faster for 18 km and I am faster for 24 km. In fact we have two cars that just have different output of the power band. That's all.
