Ultimate Factories Lamborghini this weekend and saw a clear view on exactly how they do AWD. Surprisingly, I was exactly right
On the Lambo, the secondary drive shaft runs parallel to the crank, attached directly to the block. The rear diff is also attached directly to the block. For a Subaru motor, the secondary shaft would have to be offset, prolly to the bottom right or left of the crank.
