My old frs had one of these lifetime warranty and I ran off when they said they wanted almost $800 for the 30k mile service. It only costed me 200 total, with better aftermarket filters. I believe toyota only wanted $500 for their 30k service. In the end, they voided my warranty.
I remember them saying that part of the catch was you had to get your oil changes done there, but of course she spun it to make it sound like that was a good thing.
But it seems like I simply fell victim to the "Lifetime warranty at no cost?!! Sign me up!" group and never stopped to think it was probably too good to be true. I'd probably end up doing the same as you did in the end, too.
