On the other end of the spectrum: a friend that I've gone to school with my whole life was studying to be a vet after high school. One day she stopped at the local mall to meet her sister for lunch. Her beloved old Blue Heeler was in her Suburban with her. She rolled ALL of the windows half down and hung shade towels in each one. After a nice 1/2hr lunch, she returned to find her pet gone with apparently no explanation. After sobbing on the phone to her Dad for an hour, she climbed into her car to drive away, and noticed a tiny post-it note under her wiper blade. From the Humane Society. With what amounted to a ransom note. Some "good Samaritan" had reported it. Her poor old dog was terrified at the Humane Society and she had to pay to get him back.

My takeaway is that when it comes to pets, people on both sides can lack common sense.
Most definitely lack of sense on both sides, I've come out to my running car to have someone threatening to break the windows to get the dog out. No you dumbshit, my dog is perfectly fine, the vehicle is running and the AC is clearly set on 65...
