Id say its more even than not. Half of my family is from surrounding towns near Malone NY (30 min from canada and where those escaped criminals were) There are PLENTY of what you would call "hill billies" or the northern equivalent of "rednecks" up there.
Being from the south, but also being half Canadian has helped me see that haha
