It sounds complex, but it's an extremely low-energy way to get out of the car, and the pivoting and rolling of your body out of the seat really prevents your hip causing wear on the seat bolster as you get out - in fact, that was my original concern and I mastered this technique long ago in my old BMW E46 M3.

Hilarious thing: I did actually go out to my car today and get in and out of it a few times, just to analyze what I was doing. It was a new way to look insane to my neighbors: "Honey, I think the neighbor's been drinking again. He's outside, getting in and out of his car over and over again. Something's wrong with that boy."
