The 86 fits the tuner/racing crowed that are the more hardcore, yet smaller market share of the general population. It fits into that "cool" section exactly where Toyota wants it.

It was never designed to be a massive number mover, Toyota already has the Camry, Corolla and Prius for your average job driver. It also has the RAV4 and Tocoma for the SUV and Truck market.


The 86 fits the exact market Toyota wants. Its the cool return to form racing car they want at an entry level price. Its not going anywhere, nor will they ever turn there track racing car into a AWD rally car. They will just build something new.
