Both cars have transverse mounted engines. Ignoring a whole slew of reasons why an AWD system would change the feel of the car, going with a tall transverse mount engine and asymmetrical front driveshafts would totally change the nature of this car. Not to mention the tall hood line again (remember the hood has to have a sizeable gap between it and the engine for pedestrian impact standards, which the DSM did not need to meet.)
Again we're redesigning an existing car.

Oh don't get my comment wrong. I simply said they could not should or would. Would change the whole car and lose everything it was designed for but they could.
