That sounds like the cam plate, which is a known issue. Are you talking about
this?
If so, look into the Raceseng cam plate. You can install without pulling the engine. From what I've read, it's easier than you would think.
Here's an install vid from FT86SF. They went in through the bottom, but you can install through the top of the engine bay, too.
