Back in the day, in most 3 speed MTs, the 3 gear was NOT overdriven ..... it was 1:1.
Some drivetrains had an "overdrove" unit that would make the ratio to the differential less than 1:1.
And, of course, we always have had the "Georgia overdrive" .......
