The stock subframe really isn't in the way and working around it is quite frankly not that big of a problem for the LSx series. The idea behind the the design of these headers was essentially long tubes in a mid-tube size package. They turned out for lack of a better description....... perfect. Heat management isn't even a concern for me.

With stock LSx manifolds in there, there are gobs of room. A log style for a turbo setup would provide a lot of room as well. Even with these very well designed long tube hybrids there is a surprising amount of room in there still. The FA20 is giant width wise so it makes for a lot of room to play with.
