Hey, we just became FR-S owners to a lightly modded asphalt FR-S on 6/10/15.
Our car currently has a body kit, exhaust (catback only possibly, not loud enough to have the cats deleted) a HKS "cold air intake" (well, it's an aftermarket pipe that runs in to the oem box, maybe they have a aftermarket drop-in filter... haven't checked yet) and HID headlight conversion kit. Manual 6.
What a fun little car. It looks really sharp and gets fantastic gas-mileage. On the way home we did notice however that 2 of our power outlets don't work though, and a check engine light came on an hour and a half after we left the dealer (had a 3 hour drive home). The code was showing it was running lean, which I assumed it may have to do with a fouled o2 sensor. I let the dealer know and I also put a can of sea foam in the gas. The code has since went away, but I am still going to run it to the dealer. I've only put 93 octane gas in it since I got it, I'm hoping it wasn't tuned for E85 and hoping it doesn't have an aftermarket tune at all yet (I'm not sure how to tell).
Anyways, in the pics you'll see my 2014 "gotta have it green" mustang GT. I've put a supercharger on it, suspension, shifter, exhaust, and several visual mods. It's a 700hp car.
Needless to say, the FR-S feels a little lacking in the "get up and go" department compared to our mustang lol. After reviewing the N/A bolt on list, we decided we're not interested in a measly $30 per hp build and only picking up 30ish rwhp.
Turbo it is. This is my girlfriends DD, and probably the car we'll drive more often on trips since it gets quite a bit more mpg than my mustang lol... so we have decided turbo is the way to go to conserve some of that mpg.
With this being a secondary car and not a race car by any means, I ask you... what is the lowest cost turbo kit made for these cars? So far the SBD turbo kit seems like the easiest kit to get in to boost, starting at $3,000 without a tune or fuel (if you even need to upgrade injectors. I know fuel pump is supposed to be good to 300rwhp). I'm knew to Scion and have never installed a turbo kit, but I have installed two superchargers on two of my mustangs (traded my 06 in for my 2014, both are/were supercharged). I know a turbo install is a little more involved, but I know I'm more than capable as long as the kit actually bolts up and nothing needs modification, which is why I'm posting.
So, what is the lowest cost turbo kit (in case SBD isn't it) and does the kit install without modification?
Thanks guys.
