Definitely a good idea. That way you connect the splitter once and don't have to unplug it again.

I've found the pins in the OBD2 harness on the car side can loosen up quite easily. I had to repin mine once because of that and it was a pain. I went the extension cord route so i wouldn't screw up the car side of the harness again.
