How'd those 17x9's feel in stock form? Did you notice the extra contact patch slowing you down much?
I didn't notice any "drag" in acceleration with the large wheels/tires. This could depend on what you buy tho. My setup weighs less than the stock wheels.

The BRZ on stock tires will be very over-steer happy on stock tires at autox. Especially with the nannies off. The courses are usually fairly smooth with out a bunch of sharp/hard acceleration points, so it makes it a bit easier to keep the back end playing nice. Take a couple runs to adjust to it, put your car in sport mode just so there is something to save you instead of loosing control.
