Nissan's main difficulty is they're only the 9th largest manufacturer in revenue and they make two low-volume sports cars. Neither the GT-R or the Z make them any money (the twins have sold more in a month than they've sold Z cars this year).
The twins are only slow sellers in comparison to Toyota's bread and butter and the company has the volume to absorb the lower numbers.
