Turbo options/ reliability of Brz
Hey Guys,
I will be buying a new car soon and have narrowed it down between BRZ STI Special Edition (blue- manual)--if I can find one-- and 370 Nismo and had a few questions. Let me also say that this will be the first car I will be boosting and still am a “newbe” when it comes to this stuff.
First regardless of the choice I plan to add a turbo, possibly twin on the Z. However this will just be for road “fun” as I do not plan to do much at the track with it and will be a DD. But who knows. Also my friend just got a wrx sti and I want to mess with him some.
That said I will also be looking for reliability. I know the 370 has been around for a while and has a number of “safe-ish” turbo options, but what about the brz? My friends have told me look for a flash turbo as it will actually reprogram the computer and be safer for the engine?
When it comes down to it I want to know the risk I will be taking with adding a turbo to a new BRZ and if the risk will differ much from similar upgrades to 370. Also what measures can I take to reduce the chances of blowing an engine? Can a properly tuned turbo last200,000 miles or would that be absurd?
Also slightly off topic but is there any word yet if the 2016 version will have a factory turbo yet or is it all speculation? What is the general consensus?
